The Council invites you to a CEU course on men's mental health and substance use with counselor Thomson Ivins and author David Magee.
Despite increasing public awareness around mental health and substance use, men continue to be underrepresented in treatment and overrepresented in suicide and substance abuse statistics. This course will explore the complex landscape of men's mental health and substance use, addressing the cultural, social, and psychological barriers that prevent men from seeking support. Two hours of continuing education credit will be offered to LCDC, LPC's and Social Workers.
About the Speakers
A native of Houston, TX, Thomson Ivins, Director of Clinical & Community Engagement is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas and is finishing his dissertation for his PhD in Counselor Education. Currently, Thomson is helping lead the charge in bringing integrative care practices to Houston, TX by leveraging cross-sectional partnerships among The Council on Recovery and Houston’s medical professionals. He has delivered the Mindful Choices Program and is the current program lead facilitator and trainer for Motivational Interviewing at The Council on Recovery.
David Magee is a journalist, speaker, podcast host, and bestselling author of the award-winning book Dear William: A Father’s Memoir of Addiction, Recovery, Love and Loss. A poignant and uplifting message of hope translates unimaginable tragedy into an inspirational commitment to saving others.
